Experiments
Proposal Information
Throughout NASA's continued operations of the ACTS system,
the opportunity remained open to use this unique system as
an experimental testbed. Proposals were welcomed from U.S.
industry, government, university, and other organizations.
Proposals from non-U.S. organizations were considered if sponsored
by a U.S. Satellite Industry partner who actively served as
the Principal Investigator. Company proprietary experiments
were also accommodated. Proposals were submitted to NASA Glenn
Research Center's ACTS Project for review and selection.
Experiments were sought in these areas:
- demonstrations of use of future commercial satellite communication
services by NASA and other government missions;
- standards and protocols that test, characterize, validate,
and promote the seamless interoperability of satellites
with terrestrial networks;
- characterization of the ACTS system and satellite operations
in inclined orbit;
- new Ka-band technology and hardware verification for advanced
communication satellite systems.
Proposals were accepted through March 2000. Activities had
to be completed before experiment operations concluded on
May 31, 2000.
